Kingdom Hearts (PS2) As the name of the game suggests, it lays out its theatre in each character’s heart. Every heart has a desire for something greater than its present potent, may it be for power, love, or friendship. Few who desire too greatly sometimes lose their way and soon become lost in darkness that consumes them; the heartless. An actively timed battle, wonderfully networked merge between the Disney and Final Fantasy characters, and ever inspiring storyline of Sora, the main character, and his friends, Donald and Goofy, fighting to win over the lost ones from the heartless makes Kingdom Hearts one of the most intriguing and anticipating game of all the role playing games. The story is about saving worlds, many from Disney movies, that are being fallen into the hands of the heartless. Sora sets out to save his close childhood friend, Kairi, when his own world was taken over by the heartless. World by world Sora eventually locks a doorway that links the heartless world, hence heartless creatures. The battles seem much more complex and delicate yet in many ways spectacular. The main character uses around eight types of magic with summoning included, many similar to those from Final Fantasy, from Fire to Firaga and few new ones such as Graviga. Summoning can be performed once a summon is obtained. Some of these summons are the Genie from the world Agraba and Tinker Bell from Neverland. The only bad thing about summoning is when these summons are played in the battle your partners, Donald and Goofy, step out of the stage. Nonetheless three characters who are fully capable of doing everything that was mentioned above. Pertaining to computer graphics, the only one you will be seeing is the one in the very beginning when you press “new game.” So for those who enjoy 50+ computer graphics from the Final Fantasy series and are used to seeing them often like me, it is one part of the game that is somewhat near disappointing. As every role playing game player knows there are few frustrating parts of the game where every little detail makes a huge difference to the progress of the game. Unfortunately unless you are a very patient person, make quick friend with the official guide. However such frustration is quickly balanced with the enjoyment of seeing all of your favorite characters from at least 6 different Disney movies. Overall the merged product of Disney and Squaresoft, soon to be the prequel to another extremely anticipated game, Kingdom Hearts 2, is a rare success that is a must play. |
