Homeworld 2 (PC) Homeworld is an in-depth sci-fi, mysterious hyperspace technologies story. Its about a progenitor race, ancient prophecies, and holy missions. Its been added with names that are pretty hard to pronounce. This is one of the best examples of a real-time strategy game in a deep space setting. This game makes it look flawless! Relic Entertainment decided to do a sequel to the Homeworld line, and we at CollegeAlley are excited to check this game out. The gameplay is no different from Homeworld one. If players are familiar with the older game, they will have no problems getting into the thick of things in this sequel. The main point of each mission is still the mothership. Squadrons of fighters, fleets of frigates, and resources from asteroids are all important parts of each mission. Players get to keep all their plays for successive missions. This action is incredibly more intense. The battles are put together so well showing detailed ships, attacks, and maneuvers. Relic has toned down the fighter formations from the first game. It was a confusing point in the first game. All you have to do now is simply assign a offensive, attack formation, or defensive disposition and they choose the best formation for the situation. You can also group the fighters, frigates and capital ships together into a group. These groups can also be put into special formations. These great additions to the game help to really put detailed battles and tactics together. In Homeworld 2, you cant just expect to make a group of frigates and destroyers and think of just dominating. Each class of ship plays a role in the whole scheme of things. Squadrons of interceptors and bombers can make capital ships that are traveling alone very easy targets. Fleet management encourages players to make better use of the 3D area. This is a pretty hard game. Things begin pretty easy, but when you hit a mission, especially mission four, it is incredibly difficult. This mission is more about luck than skills. When things finally level off, another mission later in the game appears, that seems be designed at wiping out your entire fleet. It leaves you almost nothing to continue with. The ability to take over other ships with the marine frigate was removed so that the missions would not be too easy, but we needed all the help we could get. Some of these missions were insane! Homeworld 2 is a great sequel. If offers up a great improvement from the original and stays with its roots. Its not the newest phenomenon of gaming that the original was, but its an excellent edition that delivers on what was promised to many fans. |
